Mark Frygell (b. 1985 in Umeå, Sweden) is a Swedish artist, musician, and tattooist known for his vibrant, colorful paintings that blend the grotesque with the playful. Growing up in Umeå’s alternative music scene and raised by an artist mother, Frygell spent his early years performing with punk bands, designing album covers, and apprenticing as a tattooist. This eclectic background eventually led him to painting in his twenties.
His multidisciplinary work incorporates digital media, sound, and other forms, but painting remains central to his practice. Frygell’s works are characterized by a bold color palette, rich textures, and figurative scenes that blend the familiar with the uncanny. He describes his art as an exploration of ambiguity, fantasy, and storytelling—spaces where opposites meet and invite open interpretation.
